Privacy Policy for Dalexio (Define / Speech)
Summary: Dalexio processes only the text you select to provide Define/Copy and optional Pronounce/Read-Aloud features. Dalexio does not sell data, does not track browsing, and stores only user preferences needed for the extension to work.
1) Overview
Dalexio (Define / Pronounce) is a browser extension that helps users quickly define and copy selected text on webpages and optionally hear pronunciation or read-aloud audio. Dalexio is designed to minimize data collection and uses data only to provide its core functionality.
2) Data We Collect
Dalexio does not collect personal user data such as names, email addresses, location, browsing history, or keystrokes.
Dalexio may temporarily process the following only when you initiate an action (e.g., clicking Define, Copy, Pronounce, or Read-Aloud):
- Website content (selected text only): text you manually select on a webpage, used to generate a definition, copy to clipboard, or generate speech audio.
Dalexio does not automatically scan pages, record user activity, or collect background page content.
3) Use of Third-Party Services
When you use Define or Pronounce/Read-Aloud, Dalexio may send the selected text to the OpenAI API to generate a definition or speech audio.
- Requests are made only when initiated by you (or when you enable optional auto-read).
- Dalexio does not load or execute remote code (no external scripts are injected).
- No analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking is performed by Dalexio.
OpenAI’s handling of data is governed by OpenAI’s own policies.
Region Availability (Supported Countries)
Dalexio uses the OpenAI API to provide certain features (such as definitions and text-to-speech). Dalexio is only available in countries and territories where OpenAI supports API access. OpenAI maintains an official list of supported countries and territories, and accessing or offering access to OpenAI services outside that list may result in accounts being blocked or suspended.
Access Controls
To comply with these requirements, Dalexio may:
- Restrict, suspend, or deny access to OpenAI-powered features if you are located in (or appear to be located in) an unsupported country or territory.
- Display an error or message indicating the service is unavailable in your region.
OpenAI may also reject requests from unsupported regions (for example, returning an error indicating the country/region/territory is not supported).
Travel, VPNs, and Location Mismatch
If you travel, use a VPN/proxy, or your network routes through restricted regions, Dalexio features may fail or be blocked. Dalexio does not guarantee availability when a user’s location cannot be reliably confirmed as supported.
Changes
Supported regions may change over time. Dalexio may update availability to remain compliant with OpenAI’s supported-countries policy.
4) Data Storage
Dalexio uses Chrome’s extension storage (e.g., chrome.storage) to store only user preferences, such as:
- Extension settings (definition length, auto-close timer, voice options)
- Disabled-site list (sites where you choose not to use Dalexio)
- API key you enter (if you use OpenAI-powered features)
This information is stored in your browser (and may sync through your Chrome profile if sync is enabled). Dalexio does not sell, rent, or share stored settings.
5) What We Do NOT Collect
- Personally identifiable information (PII)
- Authentication credentials
- Financial or payment data
- Health data
- Location data
- Web/browsing history
- User activity tracking (clicks, scrolling, keystrokes)
6) Data Sharing
Dalexio does not sell or transfer user data to third parties. Data is only transmitted to OpenAI to perform features you request (definitions and/or speech) and only for that purpose.
7) Paid Access / Licensing (if applicable)
If Dalexio offers paid features, purchase and billing are handled by the platform used for distribution (e.g., the Chrome Web Store / e.g., Stripe — Embed financial services: https://stripe.com/). Dalexio itself does not collect or store your payment information.
8) User Control
- You control when text is processed: only selected text and only when you trigger actions.
- You can disable features or exclude sites from Dalexio in settings.
- You can remove the extension at any time.
9) Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
